Featuring Lang Shih-ning: Album of Flower Paintings

Description: Ching dynasty / album, 16 leaves / ink and colour on silk / mounting - 47.0 x 39.2 cm each.

Guiseppe Castiglione (1688 - 1766), Lang Shih-ning by Chinese name was a native of Milan, Italy. He became a Jesuit missionary at the age of twenty-seven and went to China, where he served as a court painter under three Ching emperors; namely Kang-hsi, Yung-cheng and Chien-lung. He was skilled in human figure and bird-and-flower paintings, and became the favourite of the painting circles of the times with his minutely realistic works utilizing the Western style of painting. This is the finest collection of small works representing his true character.

About Nigensha Paintings

These fine reproductions of museum art are coveted by collectors everywhere. Its true-to-life reproduction is achieved through high precision quality colour printing techniques.

• Photographing : A large size full-automatic camera five meters long and weighing three tons has been specially developed for photographing at the National Palace Museum

• Plate Making and Printing: Super-precise offset printing using eight to twelve colours has been realized with the utilization of computerized plate making under the full cooperation of Tokyo Inshokan Printing Co. Ltd.
• Paper: Special paper has been developed to satisfy extremely difficult conditions such as adapting to high technology printing, maintaining the appearance and texture of the original works, and being suitable for mounting.
• Fabrics: Special synthetic fabrics with finer and more homogeneous fibres than natural silk yet having the appearance and texture of genuine silk have been newly developed to faithfully reproduce the fabric of the originals executed on silk as well as the twillsilk of albums and handscrolls.
• Mounting: The mountings of albums in booklet form and handscrolls are faithfully reproduced in respect of their twill silk, woven patterns and title pieces. Hanging scrolls are mounted in the traditional Chinese style while adopting the characteristic features of their original mountings.
• Packaging: Handscrolls are wrapped formally in sumptuous crepe silk-type square cloth and hanging scrolls in fine tissue paper. Each is placed in a traditional Japanese paulownia wood covered box which is packed in a gift box.
• Commentaries: Each work is equipped with a booklet containing the commentary and interpretations as well as the explanations of the title characters, eulogies, inscriptions, colophons and seals. The commentaries are by Mr Chiang Chao-Shen, Deputy Director of the National Palace Museum.

Our Beginnings (Founder’s Notes)

In 1939, our late Mr Keng Kim Tao, founder of Singapore Handicrafts Pte Ltd. migrated from Beijing to Singapore.  He started his business with one-fifth of a rented shop space in Orchard Road, selling $300 worth of arts and crafts which he brought along with him.

In 1965, the company became the pioneer of making Ming Style Solid Rosewood furniture in Singapore.  It also specializes in imports of various Blackwood, Rosewood and Lacquer wood furniture, arts,crafts, works of arts from various provinces in China: Guagdong, Zhongshan, Beijing, etc.  The company was incorporated in 1973.

As business flourished in early 1989, we built our own 6-storey building at Eunos Avenue 7, having a total of 60,000 square feet of space.  It is in this very building that we house our main showroom today.  This building is also where our office , factory and warehouse are located.

Factory in China

To cope with the demand of Rosewood furniture and to be competitive, we re-located our factory and set up a joint-venture factory in Shenzhen, China.  This came into operation since 1985 in partnership with our Associate Company, Well Join Investment Ltd, based in HongKong.

Presently, our factory employs over 600 experienced master craftsmen, specialising in making Rosewood, Blackwood, Zitan and Jichi furniture for export to reputable furniture/furnishing companies in the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan, Middle East and Asia.

We also represent Nigensha Publishing, Japan to market quality museum reproduction paintings from the National Palace Museum, Taipei, Shanghai and Liaoning Museums in China.

To move with the times, Accents On Accents was set up to provide exclusive, contemporary designer furniture and furnishings to suit the modern Singapore lifestyle.  In addition, we also import exquisite works of arts and gifts - collectors’ items from Europe, America and Asia.
